About Tamora Israel

Poet

Tamora Israel is an award-winning poet, multidisciplinary artist, performer, and cultural organizer whose work lives at the intersection of art and activism. As the Co-CEO of Ascending Phoenix Productions, Israel transforms stages into sanctuaries and uses creative expression as a catalyst for community change.

A commanding presence both on and off the stage, her diverse portfolio spans live theatrical productions, musical events, and immersive art installations throughout the region. Notable credits include a featured appearance at the Nantucket Poetry Festival and a critically acclaimed portrayal of the Lady in Red in Ntozake Shange’s For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf.

As a visionary storyteller, Israel is the creator of Poetry From My Brain Parts: A Journey from Beginning to Becoming. This groundbreaking multimedia project blends spoken-word, theater, comedy, film, and R&B music. This body of work includes a full-length theatrical experience, a published poetry book, an audiobook, and a series of six conceptual short films.

Beyond performance, Israel is a dedicated community architect. In partnership with Belonging Books, she founded the 438 Open Mic and Full Volume: A Poetry Slam Laboratory at The Cordial Eye in Hyannis, building the Cape Cod slam poetry scene from the ground up. Her strategic leadership extends to the boards of The Cordial Eye, Provincetown Television, and Amplify POC Inc.
